Elgin’s ELGbtq+ has opened performers’ applications for their first Pride celebrations this year.
Organizers are looking for LGBTQ performers to take part in the parade and festival on June 3 in downtown Elgin. The festival is already accepting applications for vendors and parade entries. Volunteer applications will be opening soon.
Elgin becomes the latest Chicago metro area community to host a Pride celebration, joining other cities such as Aurora, Buffalo Grove, Plainfield and Naperville.
Planning for a Pride celebration started in 2019, but the COVID-19 pandemic forced postponement. With COVID restrictions being lifted, ELGbtq+ is moving forward for their inaugural celebration.
ELGbtq+ said their mission is to create family-friendly, accessible events everyone can attend, while prioritizing queer voices in and around the Elgin area.
