The Prairie Pride Coalition (PPC) and Equality Illinois are sponsoring an LGBTQ Town Hall at 6 p.m. on Monday, March 27, at the First United Methodist Church, 211 N. School Street in Normal.

State Sen. Dave Koehler (D-Peoria) and Rep. Sharon Chung (D-Bloomington) are scheduled to attend. Moderators will lead discussions with them about legislation in the General Assembly that is of interest to the LGBTQ community.

Candidates running for seats on the Bloomington City Council; Normal City Council; District 87 School Board; and Unit 5 School Board are also invited to attend. They will have the opportunity to network with attendees and address specific ways they work toward social justice for the local LGBTQ community.

The LGBTQ Town Hall is another tool the Prairie Pride Coalition uses to help inform the local LGBTQ community about legislation and issues.

PPC was formed in 1995 and is committed to social justice for the Bloomington/Normal and McLean County communities. Equality Illinois was founded in 1991 as the Illinois Federation for Human Rights to secure, protect and defend the basic civil rights of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning (LGBTQ) Illinoisans.
