The Prairie Pride Coalition (PPC) and the Unitarian Universalist Church of Bloomington/Normal are sponsoring a Transgender Resource Fair from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, March 31, at the church, 1613 E. Emerson Street in Bloomington.
In recent months, transgender and nonbinary people have come under attack on a variety of fronts including legislation designed to inhibit or even criminalize gender affirming care. The Transgender Resource Fair is an attempt to fight this hateful trend and provide resources for the transgender and nonbinary populations.
A variety of local medical providers; mental health providers; social service agencies; organizations; houses of worship; and businesses that provide personal services will be on hand to offer information and increase awareness of what is available locally to the transgender and nonbinary populations.
The event organizers welcome transgender and nonbinary people seeking information and support. Advocates for transgender and nonbinary people are also invited to attend.
The Transgender Resource Fair coincides with International Transgender Day of Visibility, recognized annually on March 31. The day is dedicated to celebrating the accomplishments of transgender and gender nonconforming people while raising awareness of the work that still needs to be done to achieve trans justice.
The fair is consistent with Prairie Pride’s mission to help foster a local environment that is welcoming, safe, equitable, and inclusive for members of the LGBTQ community. PPC was formed in 1995 and is committed to social justice for the community.
