CARBONDALE – The Southern Illinois Pride Pageant will return to the Varsity Center this Saturday, May 13.
Seven contestants will be competing for the Royalty Court 2023-2024. The event is family and kid friendly.
The titles include Ms. Southern Il Pride Queen, Mr. Southern Il Pride King, and Mx.
Reigning Royalty Court Mr. Southern Il Christopher Matthews, Southern Il Pride King Faim Lee Jewls, and Southern Il Pride Queen Blanche DuBois will be honored through performances, special recognitions and a step-down ceremony.
This year’s Southern Il Pride Royalty Court will take on volunteer support roles for Pride in Action, Southern Il and the Southern Il PrideFest until May 2024, and will be featured in performances, parades, and fundraising for the duration of their reign.
Because of the numerous laws passed in neighboring states like Kentucky and Missouri, the organizers have opened up for contestants in a 150-mile radius of Carbondale.
Tickets are $10 each, cash at the door. Proceeds will benefit the Southern Illinois PrideFest on June 10 with some money going to the Center for Empowerment and Justice.
The Varsity Center for the Arts is at 418 S. Illinois Ave.
