Indivisible Rural Illinois to hold town hall on Thursday

The virtual town hall is responding to a symbolic anti-abortion ordinance the Danville City Council passed.

DANVILLE – Indivisible Rural Illinois will be holding a virtual town hall on Danville’s recent anti-abortion ordinance.

The city on the Indiana border passed a symbolic ordinance banning the shipment of medications used for abortion from being sent to the city in early May. The ordinance was passed in reaction to a proposed reproductive services clinic coming to Danville. Last week, a man was arrested on federal charges of attempted arson for trying to burn down the proposed location.

Since Illinois state law protects abortion access, the ordinance is only symbolic. But conservative activists are hoping to pass similar local laws.

Indivisible Rural Illinois, a progressive political organization, is holding the town hall to inform people about this tactic with representatives from the ACLU of Illinois, Personal PAC, Danville community organizers and a local elected official.
