At Black Lives Matter Springfield (BLM-SPI), it is our mission to protect, nurture and serve the Black community of Springfield, IL.As part of our mission to nurture, we desire to see our community and those in it live their healthiest and most fulfilled lives.
Reducing stigma in the Black community around mental illness and its many treatments is an important focus of BLM-SPI. With that mission in mind, we are hosting a “Melanin & Muffins” fundraiser brunch for Black women on June 4th, during PTSD Awareness Month. The esteemed Dr. Wendi El-Amin, Associate Dean of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion at SIU School of medicine will educate guests on the variety of reasons that PTSD is found in higher rates among the Black community, coping mechanisms, and warning signs.
Join us for a delicious brunch created by Luminary Kitchen & Provisions followed by an open dialog on PTSD in our community.
