Campbell Award for Best New Writer will be announced on Saturday, April 7, starting at 3 p.m. CDT. We are also proud to announce that this year’s number of nomination ballots set a new record.The nominations announcement will be made simultaneously at five conventions in the United States and Europe. Science fiction fans around the world will be able to follow the announcement live and celebrate the authors, editors, artists, and works that have been selected as the best of 2011.Conventions taking part in the announcement are:Norwescon 35, one of the Pacific Northwest’s premier science fiction and fantasy conventions, at Seatac, WA (1 p.m. PDT)Leprecon 38, Arizona’s annual science fiction and fantasy convention, at Tempe, AZ (1 p.m. MST)Minicon 47, Minnesota’s longest-running science fiction convention, at Bloomington, MN (3 p.m. CDT)Marcon 47, the Midwest’s largest annual convention, at Columbus, OH (4 p.m. EDT).Olympus 2012, the British National Science Fiction Convention (Eastercon) (9 p.m. BST).Chicon 7 representatives will be joined for the announcement by special guests including authors George RR Martin at Eastercon and Joe Haldeman at Leprecon, and artist John Picacio at Norwescon.Final arrangements are currently being made to broadcast all five convention presentations via Ustream. Via press releaseChicon 7, the 70th World Science Fiction Convention, is pleased to announce the start of the process to select the host site for the 72nd Worldcon. The only bid to have formally filed by the deadline of March 2, 2012, is the London in 2014 bid, jointly chaired by Steve Cooper and Mike Scott. The bid proposes to host the Worldcon in London, England, from August 14 to August 18, 2014.All Adult and Young Adult Attending and Supporting members of Chicon 7 are eligible to take part in the site selection process. Ballots may be submitted by postal mail or in person at the convention, up to the close of voting at 6 p.m. on Saturday, September 1, 2012. Chicon 7 is also looking into the option of online voting, which is now permitted for the first time under a constitutional amendment ratified at Renovation, the 2011 Worldcon.

Via press releaseOn April 1, 2012, the following membership rate changes will go into effect for Chicon 7, the 70th World Science Fiction Convention:- Full Adult Attending membership rates will increase from $195 to $215- Converting a Supporting membership to an Attending membership will be $165As part of the convention’s policy to encourage families and children to attend Chicon 7 the following attending membership rates for Children (0-16 years old) and Young Adults (17-21) will remain unchanged:- Children (0-16 years old) at $75- Young Adults (17-21 years old) at $100.In addition, the Family Rate for two adults plus two or more dependent children will remain unchanged at $540, providing an additional $40 discount for attending families. All Child and Young Adult rates are based on the person’s age as of August 30, 2012.The rate for an Adult Supporting membership will stay unchanged at $50.These rates will be valid through to the close of convention pre-registration on July 31, 2012. Chicon 7 will be selling “at the door” memberships, including full attending and individual day memberships, from August 1 onwards.Chicon 7 memberships are available for immediate purchase at various conventions, at www.chicon.org, and by postal mail.
