Aurora Pride Festival announces logo contest winner

AURORA — Aurora Pride Festival, the Pride celebration in Illinois’s second largest city, announced today that an entry from Alisa Kober of Arlington Heights as their logo for 2019. Indivisible Aurora announced the contest in mid-July. Alisa came out ahead of 20 semi-finalists. Among the prizes she wins are a $300 cash prize, t-shirt and a spot in the VIP section at Pride in 2019. The festival is produced by volunteers and will being going into it’s second year in 2019.

Australian Cartoonists’ Caravan of Comics Stops at Quimby’s 5/9

Quimby’s BookstoreAustralia’s premier independent comic creators are hitting the road for three weeks in three small cars, stopping at Quimby’s on May 9th! Join us in welcoming:Pat Grant – artist-writer­surfer whose debut graphic novel Blue (Top Shelf) about localism and racism may turn out to be the Great Australian  Graphic Novel Ben Hutchings – a cartoonist whose softly spoken manner belies a surprisingly cheeky streak that  informs some of the funniest comics in the world Andrew Fulton – a quiet and unassuming cartoonist whose wordless action comics are breathtaking in their inventiveness and sense of play with the form Mandy Ord – whose  autobiographical comics about life in suburban Melbourne (including the recent “Sensitive Creatures”) are consistently some of Australia’s most  accomplished sequential storytelling Douglas Holgate – part Viking, all cartoonist – is the Caravan’s most established member having  published numerous children’s titles both in Australia and overseas. His lively style speaks to an enormous enthusiasm for comics. Sarah Howell – best known as 2009-2010 Co-Director of the National Young Writers’ Festival, is an accomplished illustrator whose style is sometimes whimsical, sometimes grounded, and always stunning. David Blumenstein – the cartoonist behind the long-running comedy series The Bret Braddock Adventures; a comic that mines humor from the guts-­tearing feeling you get when you’re being taken  advantage of by a boss who hasn’t paid you in two months.

New Releases for 3/21/2012 at last!

Rough week – website was to be moved to a virtual server overnight causing just a few hours outage -this turned in to almost 2 and 1/2 days of outage.We can’t apologize enough to all of our customers, we know most of you have a routine, and it’s frustrating to not be able to do things on a regular schedule. We screamed, we begged, we did our best to get the situation corrected as fast as possible, working late in to the night and early in to the morning. The site is backup, but with that long an outage we’re way behind on everything. We’ll do our best to get completely caught up this weekend and back on schedule, thank you for your patience and understanding.Moving on to more UPBEAT news – JUSTICE LEAGUE #7 is out this Wednesday and artist GENE HA will be joining us on SATURDAY for a special 2012 HERO INITIATIVE MEMBERSHIP DRIVE! We need as many people as possible to turn out, help out the HERO INITIATIVE by joining and enjoy an evening meeting comic artist Gene Ha and learn the creative process of breaking down a Geoff Johns JUSTICE LEAGUE script from start to finish!
