BLOOMINGTON — B’N Trans – Community, a group representing transgender people in the Bloomington/Normal area, has changed it’s name to Trans Ascension: A Gender Evolved Community. The group announced its new name and logo in a Facebook post on Monday.

Our new logo and name is finally here. I am glad to welcome all of you to Trans Ascension! Mr. DeLong, of Osborn & DeLong, approached me recently about the branding of B’N Trans – Community. He offered his services as penance for how he had previously treated a trans colleague many years prior.
CHICAGO — Last week, the AIDS Foundation of Chicago (AFC) announced that Nadeen Israel as their new vice president of policy. In an email announcement, the AFC said that Israel started at the organization in 2018 as the director of policy. In her new role as VP of policy and advocacy, she will provide guidance to help AFC create a policy strategy that supports the HIV community and advances health equity.
“I’m humbled to have this opportunity and energized to work with my AFC colleagues and our partners to create equity and justice for people living with and vulnerable to HIV,” said Israel in the announcement. Prior to AFC, Israel served as the director of policy and advocacy at EverThrive Illinois where she led the organization’s policy development and implementation efforts on issues ranging from Medicaid and the ACA to maternal and infant mortality and morbidity.
“Her deep knowledge of health policy and the social determinants of health, such as housing, will help AFC move the needle on our major initiatives, including the Getting to Zero Illinois plan, which aims to end the HIV epidemic by 2030,” said AFC’s President/CEO John Peller. “I am proud to appoint a strong, smart, compassionate woman of color to this role and look forward to continuing to work with Nadeen.”
BLOOMINGTON — The Stonewall Democrats of McLean County have changed their name to Stonewall Democrats of Illinois to reflect their statewide efforts. The Stonewall Democrats are an organization of LGBTQ activists within the Democrat Party. The group made the announcement in a Facebook post on Thursday:

CHICAGO — Lambda Legal announced Friday that Brian J. Richardson, former Deputy Commissioner of the City of Chicago Department of Health, has been named Lambda Legal’s Midwest Regional Director, based in Chicago. “We are delighted that Brian has chosen to bring his energy and expertise to Lambda Legal and look forward to the leadership he will provide across the Midwest,” Lambda Legal Interim CEO Richard Burns said. “Our hard-won civil rights are under attack from many directions, so we need a strong presence in homes across the heartland. With his experience, Brian will allow us to expand our reach and remain vigilant.”
“I am thrilled to join the Lambda Legal team to build on decades of work winning greater equality for LGBTQ people and everyone living with HIV,” Richardson said. “To be clear, the progress we have won is under assault as LGBTQ people continue to face discrimination under the law. We must redouble our efforts at the state level and through the courts to both preserve our hard won gains and also move all communities and states further towards justice.”
Richardson’s career spans the public, private, and nonprofit sectors.
