Sasha Velour’s Smoke & Mirrors at Urbana’s Krannert Center

URBANA — “RuPaul’s Drag Race” alum Sasha Velour will be performing at Urbana’s Krannert Center on Saturday, Sept. 14. Krannert said on its website that tickets are being offered at no cost to the general public and are available now. Seating will be general admission throughout the venue with a limit of two tickets per patron. Tickets will only be available in-person at the Krannert Center Ticket Office (500 South Goodwin Avenue, Urbana) and by phone at (217)333-6280 or (800) KRANTIX (572-6849).

‘In Her Closet—How to Make a Drag Queen’ exhibit opens at Surplock Museum in Sept.

URBANA — A new exhibit, “In Her Closet—How to Make a Drag Queen,” will open at the Spurlock Museum in Urbana on Sunday, Sept. 15. From the Facebook event:
When you hear “drag queen,” what comes to mind? Perhaps pink feathers, sequins, sky-high heels, corsets, impossible proportions, duct tape, a pound of stage makeup, and a healthy portion of sass. The popularity of drag has exploded in recent years, and so have the questions and curiosities related to drag artistry.

CUTEnet Pride GAYla and TRANSe Party this Saturday in Urbana

URBANA —  The Champaign-Urbana Trans Empowerment Network (CUTEnet) has organized a Pride celebration for this Saturday, June 29.

Dress your best and come enjoy a celebration of Pride! The Champaign-Urbana Trans Empowerment Network, with the cosponsorship of the IMC, has organized an alcohol-free, family friendly, accessible event for the local LGBT+ community and our friends. It will feature treats, photos, dancing, and as many genders as we can fit in one building. You will find your runway into the party at the accessible entrance on the south side of the IMC. The sun room will be a gathering space to snack and socialize for the duration of the event.

UofI Academic Senate approves more funding for Women’s Resources Center

URBANA — The University of Illinois Academic Senate has approved a proposal to increase resources for students and staff affected by sexual misconduct on Monday. The News-Gazette of Champaign/Urbana reported that the Senate approved the measure by a vote of 111 to 1. The resolution urges the campus to hire more confidential advocates at the Women’s Resources Center. According to the newspaper, the center has two staff members for the whole campus. Funds were approved to fund two more hires.

U of I LGBT Resource Center to hold spring semester kickoff on Jan. 17

URBANA — The University of Illinois LGBT Resource Center will be hosting a kickoff for the semester at their offices on Jan. 17. From the Facebook event:
